Summary

The Atlas Paradox is the long-awaited sequel to Olivie Blake's New York Times bestselling dark academic sensation The Atlas Six—guaranteed to have even more yearning, backstabbing, betrayal, and chaos。

Six magicians were presented with the opportunity of a lifetime。
Five are now members of the Society。
Two paths lay before them。

All must pick a side。

Alliances will be tested, hearts will be broken, and The Society of Alexandrians will be revealed for what it is: a secret society with raw, world-changing power, headed by a man whose plans to change life as we know it are already under way。

"The Atlas Six introduced six of the most devious, talented, and flawed characters to ever find themselves in a magical library, and then sets them against one another in a series of stunning betrayals and reversals。 As much a delicious contest of wit, will, and passion as it is of magic。。。half mystery, half puzzle, and wholly a delight。"—New York Times bestselling author Holly Black

This book is the sequel to the Atlas Six。 Although I thought it was a duology, it will be at least a trilogy。 I did very much enjoy the first book and was looking forward to continuing with the characters in their second year in the Society。I felt like there was a lot of jumping around, and I’m not sure how much action actually moves forward in these many pages。 I did find it slow but overall I guess interesting because I kept reading it and focusing to find out more。It will be hard to judge thi This book is the sequel to the Atlas Six。 Although I thought it was a duology, it will be at least a trilogy。 I did very much enjoy the first book and was looking forward to continuing with the characters in their second year in the Society。I felt like there was a lot of jumping around, and I’m not sure how much action actually moves forward in these many pages。 I did find it slow but overall I guess interesting because I kept reading it and focusing to find out more。It will be hard to judge this book until we get then next one。 How do the choices of the characters in this book actually affect them? Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc! This rating might be clouded by my love for these characters。 Even though they can be very annoying and pretentious at times, and say things that no one in reality would, I still like them。Much like the atlas six, the atlas paradox is also pure vibes, with little to no plot, and is very much a character driven book。 It will not be for everyone, but it works for me。 One problem i had with the atlas paradox was the pacing, it felt and was rush Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc! well, compared to book 1, that was a bit underwhelming。 this series is no plot, just vibes but somehow this book was even less plot。 i found some of the dialogue a bit too strange or on the nose this time around (please explain why i’m reading “i hate you (affectionate)” in a book), and the pacing of this book dragged on the entire time。 we meandered along the entire time so we could get to the point that sets up for book 3。 this book felt like a tortuous bridge between the other two books in t well, compared to book 1, that was a bit underwhelming。 this series is no plot, just vibes but somehow this book was even less plot。 i found some of the dialogue a bit too strange or on the nose this time around (please explain why i’m reading “i hate you (affectionate)” in a book), and the pacing of this book dragged on the entire time。 we meandered along the entire time so we could get to the point that sets up for book 3。 this book felt like a tortuous bridge between the other two books in the trilogy - tortuous because i was so bored that i felt like this book would never end。 i did however like seeing different combinations of characters interact that previously had limited reason to do so。 (view spoiler)[ although, i hated this one sided argument between reina and nico that stretched the entire book, nico was constantly confused trying to get reina to voice why she was mad and thus there was no resolution (hide spoiler)] the academic discussions that fit well in the first book seemed to just fill up the bulk of this book and were vague enough that i struggled to see the relevance of most of them。 if you didn’t like that aspect in book 1, you’ll DEFINITELY hate it in book 2i really hope olivie blake can turn this series around in the book 3, and that this book was just a sacrifice to set up for the epic finale。 。。。more

I loved the Atlas Six and this one was well awaited。 The cover is stunning, the artwork inside the book is stunning and the whole world this is set in holds so much promise for future books。 It’s full of intrigue, fantastic writing and some great characters but I was a bit confused about the direction of this one in parts。 Maybe that was the desired effect but I definitely couldn’t tell where this book was going so certainly kept me on the edge of my seat。 There is something frantic and a slight I loved the Atlas Six and this one was well awaited。 The cover is stunning, the artwork inside the book is stunning and the whole world this is set in holds so much promise for future books。 It’s full of intrigue, fantastic writing and some great characters but I was a bit confused about the direction of this one in parts。 Maybe that was the desired effect but I definitely couldn’t tell where this book was going so certainly kept me on the edge of my seat。 There is something frantic and a slightly unhinged feeling about this book。 It darts from here to there and you feel like, as a reader, you’re trying to hold onto strings and draw things together but nothing quite makes sense。 But as you go along, some things start to click into place as you try to build a picture up of what’s happening。 It’s certainly a book you have to use your brain with, it’s not one of those effortless, mindlessly race through sort of books as you’re likely to drop a thread and get confused as to where you are! I love the writing though and the references to science and physics makes my scientists heart very happy。 I’ll definitely be avidly waiting for the next one to see how it’ll all pan out。 Thank you to the author and publishers for this book on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review。 。。。more

Copy provided by publisher via NetGalley。So, firstly I’m going to say I think there will be many readers who will thoroughly enjoy this book…it just left me in a quandary (no spoilers!)Like ‘The Atlas Six’ this is dense and I’m glad I read the two back-to-back。 Both have so many clever aspects to them like the characters’ abilities, how they function as a group, pairs and individually, and the impressive volume of world building。 This felt very much like a twisted, darker version of X-Men for me Copy provided by publisher via NetGalley。So, firstly I’m going to say I think there will be many readers who will thoroughly enjoy this book…it just left me in a quandary (no spoilers!)Like ‘The Atlas Six’ this is dense and I’m glad I read the two back-to-back。 Both have so many clever aspects to them like the characters’ abilities, how they function as a group, pairs and individually, and the impressive volume of world building。 This felt very much like a twisted, darker version of X-Men for me and the characters have so much explosive potential。 I very much enjoyed the final quarter where the plot builds to an exciting pace…。and, although there were many elements of the rest that I felt was spectacular, I just found it too slow。 I experienced this with the first one and found that I was skipping sections just to get to the dialogue。 The action just feels too minimal for me and I struggled to stay focused on the longer sections of the characters’ thoughts。 I have a sneaky feeling this may change in the third one and I will enjoy discovering what happens to the characters next。This is where I’m in a quandary- for the most part I felt like I would give it 3 stars but towards the end, it very much felt like a 4 star book。 So, I will have to settle on 3。5, 。。。more

Received from NetGalley, thanks!Holy shit。 How does Olivie Blake write these books?!? They are so freaking good, and this one has again left things on a cliffhanger and I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!This book basically started off right where The Atlas Six ended and it was so good。 We got a lot more perspectives this time, which could have been annoying, except that they were all people I was curious about from the first book。 Mostly Gideon and Ezra。 New characters were introduced and I'm curious Received from NetGalley, thanks!Holy shit。 How does Olivie Blake write these books?!? But also YES! With The Atlas Six I definitely felt like I was being manipulated the entire time I was reading it, which I think was quite a feat。 To know, as the reader, that I am being manipulated by these fictional characters and to be entirely fine with it。 I don't think I felt it quite as much with this second book, but it was definitely still there。 As each of the characters are manipulating each other, you're also being drawn into it, because you're only seeing what they want you to see, even when you're getting different POVs。 I love it。I feel like I just want to kind of flail around about how good this is, without really knowing what to specifically say about it, because I don't want to spoil it。 It's just so incredibly good。 It's also a really unique story, where it's kind of fantasy, but also sci-fi, but also a thriller because you truly don't know what the fuck is going on for most of the time。 Even the characters I could do without (Reina, Parisa), I would put up with just to get more of the others。 I feel like the other characters (Callum,Tristan, Nico, Gideon, Libby) have a lot more going on and a lot more ability to make big changes, and I cannot wait to read more about them。As a slight caveat: Gideon grew up in the foster system in Nova Scotia, and uh, we don't really have bears here。 I mean, we do, but I've lived here, in a rural area, for 15 years and never seen one。 Also, I am really curious if Blake is going to actually do anything with the fact that she's made Gideon Acadian? Like, it feels very specific to say that he's from Cape Breton and is Acadian (meaning he's from one of 2 towns), but then to not doing anything with it。 。。。more

thanks Netgalley for the ARC, I was terribly excited to read this before the publishing date I had such high hopes for this! I read the Atlas Six so quickly and rapturously。 The tension, the in depth character first writing。 The hard science! I came to this book expecting more of the same。 It was somehow softer? I felt like the writing style had a bit of a fog to it comparatively。 The six weren't just separated, but scrambled up。 The plot moved along, but everytime the time moved was mentioned thanks Netgalley for the ARC, I was terribly excited to read this before the publishing date I had such high hopes for this! 3。5/5 stars I never write reviews, because ultimately I consider my taste in books to be pretty trash。 I base my ratings basically on vibes and vibes alone, and I usually choose books to read that I think will have good vibes, so I give out a lot of 5 stars, but I won an ARC through a Goodreads giveaway so I wanted to give my honest opinion。 Rating scale:1 - strongly disliked it2 - disliked it3 - neutral4 - liked it5 - loved itI gave the Atlas Six 3 stars, didn’t hate it, didn’t love it。 Overall 3。5/5 stars I never write reviews, because ultimately I consider my taste in books to be pretty trash。 I base my ratings basically on vibes and vibes alone, and I usually choose books to read that I think will have good vibes, so I give out a lot of 5 stars, but I won an ARC through a Goodreads giveaway so I wanted to give my honest opinion。 Rating scale:1 - strongly disliked it2 - disliked it3 - neutral4 - liked it5 - loved itI gave the Atlas Six 3 stars, didn’t hate it, didn’t love it。 Overall, I feel this world of academia is exceedingly pretentious。 There are ways to give the academia vibe without spewing random philosophical or scientific factoids。 And I am a doctor, so I consider myself a fairly intellectual person, but some of the concepts introduced are just impossible to follow and really just unnecessary。 So when it comes to the academia vibes of the Atlas Paradox, nothing really changed。 But getting to see the characters develop and interact with each other more is what pushed this slightly higher than the Atlas Six。 I feel like they finally started getting distinct personalities, as opposed to in Atlas Six where everyone felt so similar (apart from our anxious Libby)。 There was also more to this story then just six people in a library, so feel like we are finally piecing together this story。 Ultimately, it feels like this series is really building to something and you’re meant to feel like you don’t know what the hell is going on until the conclusion。 So for that, I will most likely continue the series, but the first two books have been slower reads for me, which usually speaks to me not being super invested。 。。。more

I read the Atlas Paradox (thanks, NetGalley), and I am Entertained。If you liked the Atlas Six you’ll like Paradox even more。 It’s the ~25% point where we get anything resembling a plot - but until that point the protagonists did little more than psychoanalyse and insult each other in the barbed, witty way Blake specialises in。 The medeian protégés are as repellant as always, but their worst edges have been scraped off in the sequel。 The only bit of the book that involves plot and character devel I read the Atlas Paradox (thanks, NetGalley), and I am Entertained。If you liked the Atlas Six you’ll like Paradox even more。 It’s the ~25% point where we get anything resembling a plot - but until that point the protagonists did little more than psychoanalyse and insult each other in the barbed, witty way Blake specialises in。 The medeian protégés are as repellant as always, but their worst edges have been scraped off in the sequel。 The only bit of the book that involves plot and character development is Libby’s story, and I thought that was really compelling and brutal。 It has the juicy critique of white woman savourism and privilege the dark academia genre needs, and was >15% of the book。 Were it more, Paradox would have been astounding。 The other characters are static, we just learn more about them as allegiances shift。But if you’re into Blake’s Atlas world and the shippery (Paradox I suspect will confound the most ardent factions)。 I don’t imagine any of this will put you off。 And it shouldn’t。 😉 。。。more

3。5i think the atlas series as a whole is the embodiment of trying to shove way too many clothes into a tiny wardrbobe, quickly closing the door and hoping for the best。 this is to say that olivie blake-in this weird metaphor-has just some beautiful clothes that she unfortunately does not know how to fold and arrange neatly。 what i'm trying to say is that the concept both behind the first book and this one are interesting, they're gripping and most importantly new - playing around with scientifi 3。5i think the atlas series as a whole is the embodiment of trying to shove way too many clothes into a tiny wardrbobe, quickly closing the door and hoping for the best。 this is to say that olivie blake-in this weird metaphor-has just some beautiful clothes that she unfortunately does not know how to fold and arrange neatly。 what i'm trying to say is that the concept both behind the first book and this one are interesting, they're gripping and most importantly new - playing around with scientific concepts is fun especially when you attach them to a cast of interesting characters, but it all falls apart when the scructure behind them is nothing but flimsy。 the worldbuilding and the concepts that the characters keep talking and going on rants about are not well cemented into the story, so what you get is pages upon pages of monologue on something you might not fully understand, standing there wondering what you might have missed。 not only that, what tried moving the plot forward were always revelations that the characters came to themselves after having said monologues for god knows how many pages, and after a while it felt stale and repetitive。 i get that the characters don't like eachother and were thrown into the house together at random, but after a whole year together you'd think they would at least try working towards the same cause (if not simply communicate once in a while for reasons other than expressing their dislike for one another)。 i went in wishing for at least a bit of growth writing wise but it all felt the same which was definitely disappointing。even though i just went on a whole rant this is all not to say that i hated this book or that i don't want to look back on it ever again, it was actually very enjoyable and my experience reading it was quite fun。 the thing i probably enjoy most about this series is the characters and how messy they are & this book definitely did not disappoint on that front so i am not complaining。(also can we talk about that ending once it's appropriate because i actually lost my mind for a second there oh my god) 。。。more

I am going to try not spoil anything in this review as I personally hate spoilers, especially when it's a book that was this anticipated。 So where do I begin。。。 Blake is one of my go to authors at the moment。 I absolutely devoured Atlas Six and this is exactly what was needed。 I could not believe that the second book exceeded expectations as well as being an absolutely enthralling read。 I cannot recommend this enough I am going to try not spoil anything in this review as I personally hate spoilers, especially when it's a book that was this anticipated。 So where do I begin。。。 Blake is one of my go to authors at the moment。 I absolutely devoured Atlas Six and this is exactly what was needed。 I could not believe that the second book exceeded expectations as well as being an absolutely enthralling read。 I cannot recommend this enough 。。。more
